Domain Rating vs Domain Authority: What’s Actually Different?

Domain Rating (DR) and Domain Authority (DA) are the two most-quoted SEO authority scores. Both run 0–100, both estimate backlink strength, and both are third-party estimates — neither is used by Google. The differences are in what goes into the number.

• DR (Domain Rating) — a pure link-graph metric: how many unique domains link to you and how strong their link profiles are. Content quality and traffic are irrelevant to it.
• DA (Domain Authority) — a machine-learning score trained to predict ranking likelihood; it ingests link data plus dozens of other signals, and is recalibrated against real search results.

A site can sit at DR 55 and DA 38 (or the reverse) simply because the models weigh different things and crawl different link indexes. Comparing your DR to a competitor’s DA is a category error — always compare within one scale. Put two domains on one chart with a side-by-side DR comparison and the picture is instant.
